Below: The Great Horned Owl Family by Aranya (age 8)
In January of 2015, I came across a pair of Great Horned Owls, at the wetlands. I learned that the smaller one is the male and the larger one is female. On the tree, where the pair was sitting, I saw a big nest and thought that it might belong to them. I was really happy to see the nest, and waited eagerly to see owlets. So, when I visited the wetlands again in March, I saw the father owl sitting in the nest, and during subsequent visits found that a parent was always sitting in the nest, which meant that there were eggs being incubated. I was overjoyed and waited anxiously for several weeks. Then on April 22nd, Earth Day, there in the tree, in the nest, sat two little cuddly owlets, with their beautiful mother. I thought it was a precious sight!
